ABOUT US

Design Mobel began in Tauranga in the 1980s solely focused on making beautiful furniture from sustainably-sourced timber and eventually moved into producing slat beds. Design Mobel has since moved away from furniture and produces natural and organic mattresses. In the 30 years of being in business, Design Mobel has forged a sustainable path unprecedented in New Zealand furniture & bed manufacturing by planting more than 60,000 native trees. The tradition continues to this day through the Trees That Count programme.

Planting Trees For Good

We’re proud to be part of the Trees That Count programme in New Zealand. For every Design Mobel bed sold, we plant a native tree – we started doing this 20 years ago as our way of helping the environment we live and work in here in New Zealand. Remember to register your warranty for your new Design Mobel bed to ensure we contribute to this tree-planting initiative.

Global Organic Latex Standard

Our Design Mobel ranges contain latex that has been certified as part of Global Organic Latex Standard. This means that in order for the latex to gain international certification, it has to contain at least 95% of the organic raw material. This applies to the rubber and tracking it from the raw material through to it going into a Design Mobel mattress.

Cleaning up the oceans

We’ve joined in the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE that has brought together an international community of individuals, organisations and companies to help clean up the oceans and raise awareness of the increasing problem of ocean litter. Seaqual is the result of recycled plastics from that waste that goes into many different products from car seats covers to fashion and now Design Mobel mattress fabric.

Innovation & Design

Since it began, Design Mobel has won numerous accolades – 20 major design awards including the New Zealand supreme award for Furniture design a total of four times. And in 2007, Design Mobel was awarded New Zealand’s Sustainable Business of the Year.
